My Education and Experience

Education

I hold a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. I also have a Certificate in Sandplay and Imaginal Studies from John F. Kennedy University, located in Pleasant Hill, in the San Francisco Bay Area. Professional development is a priority for me, and I attend professional classes, workshops and conferences regularly to continue my education beyond my formal training as a Marital and Family Therapist.

Experience

During my internships prior to obtaining my California license as a therapist, I had the opportunity to work with clients in a broad range of age groups, including preschoolers at The Link to Children in Oakland, California, school-age children and adults of all ages at the Marina Counseling Center in San Francisco, parents at Parental Stress Services in Oakland, and elderly adults at the Center for Elderly Suicide Prevention in San Francisco. This experience helped me to recognize the issues people face at different stages of their lives and to understand the struggles associated with those issues.

Prior to obtaining my license in Connecticut, I offered anger management coaching services under the name of Reworking Anger, where I continued to apply my skills and experience in helping clients to manage their anger effectively.

In addition to my professional experience, because I am an older therapist I can draw on my own life experience to give me insight. The seasoning that comes with age enables me to listen to my clients empathically and without judgment.

My current clients

Currently I work in Mansfield Center with adults in individual therapy, and couples counseling. They come from diverse ethnic cultures and have varied sexual orientations and religious beliefs. I use several different orientations and techniques, depending on the needs and goals of a client: psychodynamic therapy, cognitive therapy, and anger management therapy. I seek effective strategies for helping a client to address whatever his or her concerns may be.
What I love most about my work as a therapist is the feeling of privilege, honor and respect that I have when I sit with clients who seek healing from the pain in their lives.
